Come discover this unique area and stay awhile.  Roadrunner Retreat is the perfect place for a vacation getaway.  The property, with its sense of pace and tranquility, embraces the beauty of its rural mountain surroundings.  It is truly a special place with striking territorial views of the Patagonia and Coronado Mountains and a variety of activities including hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, world renowned birding, boating, 4-wheeling, exploring ghost towns and visiting  Arizona Wine Country just a few miles down the road in Sonota and Elgin.

Ranchers, Wineries and Brew Pub

 

The legacy of ranchers and homesteaders flavors the communities of Sonoita and Elgin.  Sloping out of the eastern side of the Santa Rita Mountains, the prairie grasses ripple across the wide valley surrounded by nine mountain ranges.  The elevation of 4,900 feet yield mild summers and breathtaking scenery that beckons riders, hikers and birders to this area, which also is home to award-winning vineyards.  In 1973 a retired University of Arizona soil scientist planted the first wine grapes. He proved the area's soil and climate was right for growing grapes.  Over the years twelve wineries have been established in northeast Santa Cruz County.  All welcome visitors to their tasting rooms.  Wine lovers should allow the better part of a day to our the wineries.

Coronado National Forest and the surrounding areas offer year-round recreation opportunities for all evergy levels.  In addition to the many hiking and biking trails you can visit local wineries in Sonoita and Elgin and surrounding ghost towens.  Birdwatchers, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, hikers and mountain climbers have hundreds of miles of national forest and wildernes trails to explore.  Visit Patagonia Lake State Park just a short drive from Patagonia where you can fish, swim or boat.  Patagonia is an access point for the Arizona Trail.  It is a great way to spend a day with your family and friends.

Unique Riparian Wildlands and Wildlife

Roadrunner is just a short distance from year round habitate for rare and exotic birds...one of the most exciting spots for birding in the entire country.  The Nature Conservancy Preserve's beautiful scenery thrives with unique riparian wildlife aread feed by the Sonoita Creek.  The creed is home to some of the world's best bird watching and the oldest Fremont Cottonwood trees, some 130 years old and towering more then 100 feet tall.  More than 300 bird species have been sighted in the Preserve.  You can connect to the Arizona Trail just two blocks from Roadrunner or take a short walk down the hill into Patagonia.

Roadrunner is just a short distance from year round habitate for rare and exotic birds...one of the most exciting spots for birding in the entire country.  This region, which ranges up to 5,000 feet above seas level, is noted for its open spaces, biological diversity, colorful history, eclectic culture and its is the premier wine tasting distingation in the state.  Patagonia is one of the west's last undiscovered treasures.  Charming downtown shops and galleries feature the work of local and regional artists.  Patagonia also offers access to numerous hiking treails including the historic Arizona Trail and just 19 miles from Sonora Mexico.
